In the men's tournament at Lakeside, Barry Copeland advanced to the last sixteen. The Northern Irish darter had no problems with Aaron Turner, winning the game 3-0 in sets.

Copeland easily managed to win the first two sets his way. Both the first and second sets went 3-0 to the number 14 seed. Turner then led 2-0, but with three won legs in a row, Copeland prevented a fourth set. He now faces his close friend and travel partner, Neil Duff.

Aletta Wajer has become the first Dutch player to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Championship at Lakeside. Wajer won 2-1 in sets over Paula Murphy at the last sixteen.

In the first set, Wajer fell behind, but was then the better scorer against her American opponent. Via a 21-darter and two 20-darters the set went 3-1 to Wajer.

The roles were reversed in the second set. Wajer then gained a 1-0 lead via a 19-darter, but did not get another arrow on a double in the remainder of the second set. Murphy equalized with an 18-darter, then threw a 21-darter and a 20-darter to win the set.

A third set had to bring the decision. Wajer started the final set excellently with a 15-darter and then doubled the lead via double 5. A 60 finish in the third leg then earned Wajer a spot in the quarterfinals.
