Ryan de Vreede has made it to the Last 16 of the WDF
Lakeside World Championship at the expense of Jules van Dongen.
The Dutchman plays in the last sixteen against James Hurrell, who triumphed against John Desreumaux (3-2 on Tuesday evening).
Van Dongen hit a 177 to start and De Vreede started off with a 180. The former pressured the 123 for De Vreede and he missed the big number but Van Dongen chased round the board to no avail to allow De Vreede back to hold.
Van Dongen couldn’t hit 96 and De Vreede returned to double his lead. Van Dongen missed darts to break once more but De Vreede missed the big number and the former broke to make it 2-1.
A 180 followed by double 14 saw Van Dongen send the set all the way. But De Vreede hit a 72 checkout to seal the opening set.
Van Dongen began the second set with a 110 checkout to hold. He pinned a 74 checkout to go one away from the set with a break. De Vreede hit back with a 104 checkout.
Van Dongen missed two darts for the set and De Vreede levelled up to hold. A 90 checkout saw the latter go one away from the win.
Van Dongen returned and broke to begin set three and went one away from the set. De Vreede held to continue the third set. He hit double 20 to make it 2-1 in sets.
De Vreede levelled up at 1-1 with it going with throw. He hit a 107 checkout to go one away and pinned double seven to win.
The tie between Wayne Warren and Lee Shewan will not be played due to a production failure which saw the coverage hampered on Eurosport and it will be moved to Wednesday evening.
