The 2022 WDF
Lakeside World Championship continues with
Beau Greaves finally beginning her campaign with victory over Veronika Ihász in a tough opening test.
The 18-year-old is one of the main favourites for the Ladies title but was pushed all the way by the Hungarian qualifier who has impressed this week including breaking the highest checkout by a woman at the Lakeside with a 164.
To begin the tie, Greaves hit double six to seal an opening hold. She was sat on 47 to break and got a chance at it after an 81 was missed by Ihász which she pinned to make it 2-0.
Missing 68 for the set, Ihasz pounced with a 78 checkout to make it 2-1. A 164 checkout on the bull saw Ihasz break the record for highest checkout by a lady on the Lakeside stage breaking the 160 set by Ann-Louise Peters.
But a 140 to leave double 10 saw Greaves not give Ihasz a shot for the set as she left the stage 1-0 up.
Greaves started the second set breaking throw to go 1-0 up and she doubled her lead with a 109 checkout to go one away. A 78 checkout asked the question from Ihasz against Greaves.
She missed 122 on double seven for 2-2 but Greaves busted 74. Ihasz missed another break chance but was afforded another after Greaves spurned match darts.
Ihasz missed 116 for the set but more match darts went begging for Greaves and the Hungarian sent it all the way.
Greaves hit a 180 to begin the deciding set as she aimed to stamp her authority and hit double 20 to make it 1-0. But Ihasz hit a 180 of her own on her throw and pinned double four to make it 1-1.
A 104 checkout was missed on double 15 by Ihasz and Greaves replied on double 20 to make it 2-1 and go one away and a 55 checkout saw Greaves seal it.
While
Neil Duff has secured a Quarter-Final spot continuing his quality run so far this week seeing off Nick Fullwell 3-1 in sets.
Duff hit double 12 to seal the opener. Fullwell hit a 180 but was a bogey number and didn’t seal the leg with Duff hitting double five to go one away from the opening set which he sealed.
Duff pounced to begin the second set to go 1-0 up and he hit a 100 checkout to go 2-0 up. Fullwell hit a last dart double five with a 96-checkout following along from Duff to make it 2-0.
He went 1-0 up in the third set with a hold. A 56 checkout saw Fullwell level up and after Duff spurned opportunities, he sealed a setback. Duff let out a roar as he hit double 20 to break and lead 1-0 in the requisite set. A 180 and double four saw him seal it.
