It wasn't a quality affair but James Hurrell produced when it mattered to seal his opener against John Desreumaux at the 2022 WDF Lakeside World Championship.
Hurrell who is now WDF World Number One won it with a flourish hitting a 141 checkout to seal it and will now face Jules van Dongen or Ryan de Vreede.
Desreumaux put Hurrell under pressure early on taking the opening set. The latter hit an 84 checkout to lead the following set and despite the Belgian hitting 130, he sealed two legs in a row for the set.
Hurrell pinned 94 for the set sweeping through albeit still averaging around 75 to go 2-1 up and one away from the third round.
Desreumaux sealed an opening break after Hurrell missed darts to hold and held with a 56 checkout to go one away from levelling. He missed three darts for the set but returned to send it all the way.
It was a tale of missed doubles but Hurrell finally hit double five to lead in the decider and doubled his lead to go one away and pinned 141 to seal it with a flourish.
While Kirsty Hutchinson was quality in terms of scoring throughout against Jo Clements with some issues in terms of doubling at times but she still got through in straight sets and is into the Quarter-Finals as one of the favourites in that half.
Hutchinson sealed the opening leg despite some nervy finishing. Clements missed 98 for a hold but Hutchinson chased around only to return again as the nervy start continued.
She missed multiple darts for the set and Clements held throw finally but Hutchinson sealed the opener on double 12.
Clements began with a hold in the form of an 80 checkout. Hutchinson missed 98 for a hold of throw but returned with Clements well back to level the score.
Hutchinson sealed a break of throw to go one away on double 10. A 134 checkout saw Clements send it all the way. The former missed 76 for the match but returned for double 10 with Clements unable to take out 100.
