Paul Lim sealed a 3-2 win seeing off Gary Stone to reach the Quarter-Finals of the WDF World Championship as he proved age is merely a number. At the age of 70, he continues to dazzle on the Lakeside stage.
He said earlier in the week that it was his last ever World Championship but with the darts he is producing, he is still very much up in the reckoning for Lakeside glory this week.
"I never expected that. I've always told players when they play darts I enjoy it regardless, I always say that you have to enjoy the game to appreciate it. Winning of course is a celebration but whenever you lose you've got to feel this is part of the game. I've gone through a lot of losing to what I am right now. All I can say is enjoy the moment because it's a memory. My lifespan I've been doing darts for over 40 years now. If it comes it comes, if it doesn't come then you work hard. There's no excuses just get better that's all," said Lim to WDF Darts.
He also said he felt Stone was intimidated by him but wasn't sure why he was.
"I could feel it. it felt like Gary was intimidated. I don't know it what sense though. In moments of darts I was feeling down for a moment because the second set, I had a chance to be two sets up."
"As it goes along I came back, I could feel. I think he was intimidated I don't know why but Gary is a good player. But in this moment, what comes comes that's all."
But heading into a close with Jarno Bottenberg, he won't get sucked into his pace for the simple reason that in his words, he can't chase that.
"I'm just going to play my pace. I'm not a fast player. I'm 71 years old, I can't chase him and so I'll play my pace, play my darts and if it comes it comes that's all."
