Jarno Bottenberg and
Thomas Junghans are the latest two players into the Last 16 at the 2024 WDF
Lakeside World Championship as the afternoon session ends in Frimley Green.
Bottenberg battled past 15th seed Ryan Hogarth to better his run from last year. The talented Dutchman prevailed over the Scot 3-1 in sets to set up a tie against either Bjorn Lejon or Jimmy van Schie.
Hogarth wasn't best pleased at the end pushing Bottenberg and not being too accepting of a handshake with the Dutchman. But he is out and Bottenberg is through.
Hogarth likely will be more frustrated with his own display as he survived set darts in the opener to go 1-0 up with finishes of 114 and 111. But Bottenberg levelled up in style winning the second set 3-0 with a brace of 16 darters. It was more 16-darters for Bottenberg as he hit double 14 to take the third set 3-1.
Hogarth started a pivotal set with the lead but Bottenberg broke back with a 14-darter and built from there as Hogarth could barely lay a glove on the Dutchman. He hit a 180 and double 16 to claim a one away scenario. One he took with a superb leg with 134, 171 and 140 in a row before pinning double 16 to seal it.
Also through is Thomas Junghans with the Swiss ace defying a superb display from James Beeton. The player known as 'Beets' produced eight 180's but it was Junghans who came through the five set battle with some adept finishing. He pinned 104, 117 and 144 en route to winning 3-2.
Beeton won the first set responding to losing the first leg but Junghans responded to losing the first set taking it 3-0 with finishes of 87 and 80. Beeton hopped back in front at 2-1 with a 90 checkout to take the third set 3-2.
But a 144 from Junghans took it all the way at 2-2. The ninth seed with a 117 on double eight to finish after Beeton couldn't finish moves through. Carl Wilkinson awaits.
