Jeffrey Sparidaans has become the new winner of the Dutch Open Darts in Assen. After Jelle Klaasen (2022), Berry van Peer (2023) and Jarno Bottenberg (2024)0, Sparidaans is the fourth consecutive Dutch winner at the largest open darts tournament in the world.
The men's singles tournament began on Saturday with many thousands of participants. Sparidaans played his way through the first day without any problems. He successively defeated Vandi Arends (3-0), Leopold Stuetz (3-1), Gert-Jan Beun (3-0), Nikolas Wirtz (3-1), Mathijs Zantingh (3-1) and Marcel Beernink (3-0) to secure a spot in the last 128.
Well-known names such as Jimmy van Schie, Jarno Bottenberg, Martijn Kleermaker, Brian Raman, Wesley Harms, Jeffrey de Zwaan, Jerry Hendriks and Danny van Trijp also managed to qualify for the final day of the singles tournament, while Maikel Verberk, Moreno Blom, Gino Vos, Jimmy Hendriks, Geert de Vos, Geert Nentjes, Mareno Michels, Darryl Fitton and Ron Meulenkamp were among the players who did not survive the first day.
The remaining 128 men began the remainder of the tournament on Sunday morning. Sparidaans followed up his tournament by beating Jamie Kelder (4-1), Corné Groeneveld (4-3), Vincent van der Meer (4-0) and Daniel Zapata (4-2) to secure a spot in the last eight.
In the quarterfinals, he was 5-2 too strong for Mario Robbe, after which Danny van Trijp awaited in the semifinals. Van Trijp was defeated 2-0 in sets (3-2, 3-0). David Fatum became the other finalist. The American had surprisingly won from Davy van der Zande (4-3), Jimmy van Schie (4-3) and then Martin Kleermaker (2-0 in sets), among others. A new stunt did not materialize, as Sparidaans managed to win the final 3-0 in sets to take the top prize of 6,000 euros.
