There is a new Dutch world number one within the World Darts Federation (WDF). The ranking at this federation has been led since Monday by Jimmy van Schie, who has taken over from his compatriot Wesley Plaisier.
Van Schie is experiencing his international breakthrough this season. He already won seven WDF tournaments, allowing Van Schie to accumulate many points for the rankings. Next month he will also make his debut at Lakeside, where the WDF World Championship will be played. Plaisier is currently second in the rankings, but will not be taking any more points as he has recently captured his Tour Card and will make a permanent move to the PDC.
The current top ten WDF rankings currently include five players who will not be in action at Lakeside this year because they have also qualified for the PDC's World Darts Championship. This association does not allow players to compete in both World Championships. In addition to Plaisier, these include Leonard Gates (fifth), Ben Robb (sixth), Alexander Merkx (eighth) and Connor Scutt (ninth).
