THE TIGER STRIKES! After final heartbreak in yesterday's Swedish Open, Tonni Sørensen makes good today by winning the Swedish Masters. Sørensen started strongly and eventually sealed a 6-5 victory with his fourth match dart.
Liam Maendl-Lawrance narrowly missed out on winning the title at the WDF Swedish Masters on Sunday. He lost to Tonni Sörensen in a decider in the final.
On his way to the final, Maendl-Lawrance defeated Stefan Posinger 4-0 and also whitewashed Jozsef Szlanyina and Lee Hunter. In the round of 16, the Munich native faced Brian Lökken, whom he knocked out of the tournament with a 4-1 win, before he also outclassed Pontus Danielsson 4-1 in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, Maendl-Lawrance managed a 5-3 victory over Darren Williams.
On his way to the final, Sörensen defeated Mats Anderson (4-0), Antony Allen (4-1), Ivan Madsen (4-1), Petri Rasmus (4-1), Johan Engstrom (4-2) and finally the Swiss Thomas Junghans 5-2 in the semi-final.
In the final, Sorensen managed a break in the sixth leg to take a 4-2 lead. But Maendl-Lawrance immediately got the break back in 17 darts and in as many darts he confirmed the re-break to level at 4-4.
The remaining three legs went to darts. Here the Dane had the advantage of having won the bull and used this chance to win the title with a 16-darter.
