Dimitri van den Bergh does not appear to be the only darts talent in his family. His little brother Xanti managed to win his first WDF title at the
Swedish Open in Malmo last Saturday.
The Swedish Open is one of the bigger open tournaments on the WDF calendar. Big names like Eric Bristow, Bob Anderson, Rod Harrington, Roland Scholten, Raymond van Barneveld and Erik Clarys once won there. Xanti van den Bergh is now following in the footsteps of his illustrious compatriot Clarys by becoming the second Belgian to take the Swedish Open title.
The 20-year-old Belgian successively defeated Mikkel Bak (4-2), James Beeton (4-3), Viktor Tingstrom (4-3), John Scott (4-3), Moreno Blom (4-2), Ryan Hogarth (5-2) and Tonni Sorensen (6-4) to secure the title.
In the ladies, the final victory went to Aletta Wajer. In a Dutch final, she was 5-2 too strong for Anca Zijlstra, after Wajer had previously defeated Kirstine Christensen (4-0), Rebecca Brouse (4-3), Ina Rademacher (4-1) and Henriette Honore (4-0).
