This weekend sees a popular WDF tournament on the calendar in the form of the Denmark Open and Masters and it was won on the Saturday by two familiar names in
Mitchell Lawrie and
Deta Hedman. The former as a result seals his return to Lakeside.
Hedman of course as defending
Lakeside Women's World Champion returns anyway automatically while Lawrie wasn't assured despite reaching the final. He won two titles over the course of the day winning the Youth title.
But he also won the men's senior title seeing off Jarno Bottenberg 6-2 firing in three 180's and averaging 93.61. He saw off Andy Baetens, the former WDF World Champion 5-1 with a 90 average after also defeating Ross Montgomery averaging 102 in the process.
He also defeated Anthony Brown 4-2, Richard Tingvall 4-2 as well as Andreas Hyllgaardhus, Benjamin Drue Reus and Mikkel Gravgaard over the course of the day.
Hedman returns with win in Denmark after previous Van Leuven drama
In the women's tournament, Hedman who as she noted last year decided to not play against Noa-Lynn van Leuven in this same event returned to win it this time and become a seven time champion in the process. She defeated rising Turkish star Zehra Gemi 5-2 in the final after also defeating Irina Armstrong, Emine Dursun, Michelle Merlit, Romy Vermeulen and Maja Oijerstedt.
Both return for today's Denmark Masters but have had success in the opening tournament of the weekend which has gleamed Lakeside spots for both albeit for Lawrie it is pivotal more than Hedman who has already qualified.
