Dave Prins made light work of Mark Graham including a 132 checkout on the bullseye en route to a 2-0 sets win as the 2022 WDF
Lakeside World Championship continued on Saturday evening.
To begin the tie, Prins levelled up the opening set with a 112 checkout. He pinned double eight to hold once more to go 2-1 up. A 60 checkout on double 20 saw ‘The Badger’ take the first set.
He went one away with a superb 132 checkout on the bull to go one away and double 16 claimed it for ‘The Badger’ in a dominant display.
Jo Clements came from a set down to see off Suzanne Smith in a battle of the Lakeside debutants over a three set battle in one of the best ladies games so far in the tournament.
Smith began the tie on double three breaking throw before missing 76 which allowed Clements back for 1-1. A 140 and double 20 saw her break and go 2-1 up before sealing the set on double seven.
She missed 80 for an opening hold but returned and Clements returned for 123 on the bull and she doubled her lead from there before hitting double five to level up.
Clements began the decider by holding throw on double eight. A 49 checkout levelled up at 1-1. Clements held again to go 2-1 up. Smith sent it all the way on double 20 but having the throw Clements sealed the win.
Justin Thompson finally ended the opening day of action by seeing off Paul Hogan in a battle of Lakeside stalwarts in a 2-1 sets win to book his spot in the second round.
Hogan took the early lead with a hold of throw. Thompson did the same on double 20 to make it 1-1 and broke throw on 2-1 before pinning double 10 for the set.
He pinned double 10 to go 1-0 up and followed that up with double four to hold. Hogan broke back on double 18 to make it 2-1 followed up with a 66 checkout on double 18. A 126 checkout on bull saw Hogan force a deciding set.
Hogan missed 106 to hold to begin the decider but spurned chances and Thompson went 2-0 up before sealing a 74 checkout to win through.
