Brian Raman ended a thrilling day of darts at 2022 WDF
Lakeside World Championship sealing a spectacular win over Johnny Haines with a 121 checkout.
To begin the tie, Haines sealed an opening break of throw and after Raman missed the chance to break twice, Haines pinned double 10 to make it 2-0.
Raman produced a 48 checkout to hold throw and broke throw with Haines missing set darts and the Belgian hit a 68 checkout to turn it around and lead 1-0 up.
He hit a 61 checkout to begin set two to break and hit double 16 to double his lead and a 64 checkout saw him go 2-0 up in sets.
Haines broke throw to go 2-1 up and was throwing for a set back. But Raman hit double 18 to make it 2-2. An 81 checkout was missed by Haines and Raman took aim at 91 but he didn’t get a match dart with Haines pinning double four to get a set back.
Haines hit a 116 on double 18 to draw level at 1-1. He clipped 121 on the bull and Raman hit 108 on double 16 to send it all the way.
Raman missed 72 for the match and Haines hit 66 to send it all the way. A 180 and 101 saw Haines to break throw. Raman hit double 12 to break back and double 20 to go one away.
Haines hit a 92 checkout with Raman waiting to win and it all relied on the Belgian who started with a 180 and had six darts to win from 121 which he sealed on double 18.
Before that,
Richard Veenstra eased past Laszlo Kadar as he made light work of the Romanian who stunned Andreas Harrysson in the opening round but failed to produce once more.
Veenstra lost the opening leg but sailed through the opening set without reply and did so again in the second to go one away from the match which not much coming back from the Romanian.
Kadar stopped the rot but Veenstra came back with a 180 and double 18 to level up before pinning double six to go one away from the win and a 52 checkout saw the Dutchman get over the line.
