Fallon Sherrock has finally withdrawn from the field of participants at the WDF Women's World Championship at
Lakeside. Her withdrawal comes as no surprise.
At the end of November there were rumours about an upcoming withdrawal of Sherrock. It was said that she preferred to play a lucrative exhibition tournament in Germany. Her management dismissed these stories as nonsense and announced that Sherrock has not yet made a decision about participating in the Women's World Championship.
That choice has now been made. Just like in 2020, the Queen of the Palace is missing from the battle for the women's world title. Two years ago she cancelled due to uncertainty about the prize pool. There is no ambiguity about that now, because with a prize fund of £87,500 on offer, it is bigger than ever. For the women's world champion, a cheque for £25,000 is waiting.
However, the final of the women's WDF World Darts Championship is on January 9 and on that day the Q-School also begins, where Sherrock is looking to capture her PDC Tour Card. Entering Q-School later is not an option for her, because then the 27-year-old would immediately miss out on important points to reach the final phase.
This after special exemptions were given to the ladies including Sherrock to compete at both World Championships with the men’s field having to pick between Ally Pally or Lakeside.
There is still a chance Sherrock doesn't have to go to Q-School at all to get a Tour Card. With victories over Steve Beaton and Kim Huybrechts at the World Darts Championships, she would enter the top-64 of the world rankings, which would earn her a PDC Tour Card by right.
