With the demise of Neil Duff earlier albeit in a remarkable comeback quelled, Paul Lim again had to play the Night Shift role as the 70-year-old Singapore Slinger kept his Lakeside charge alive in a late-night win.

Lim will now face Jason Brandon for a spot in the Lakeside final after concluding the night's proceedings at 20 past midnight in the UK. Most of the crowd had left by the time he'd hit the winning double but he quelled Jarno Bottenberg's charge and keeps his dream alive. A popular winner the legend would be and it could be realised with a wide open men's draw.

Lim initially survived an enslaught as Bottenberg missed five set darts and he escaped into a 1-0 set lead. Bottenberg levelled up taking out 140 before finding double 18 in the deciding leg of the set.

But Lim moved back in front finding double four with the last dart in hand to win the set 3-2. Bottenberg levelled it up going into the second break taking the fourth set 3-1. But back came Lim going 3-2 up in sets with a sensational 107 checkout and he claimed it also 3-1 to move back in front once more.

Bottenberg forced the issue and looked to head into a decider with impetus as he won the third set 3-0 with a 100 average. Lim showed no signs of relenting though and surged 2-0 ahead and hit 133 to leave 40 meaning Bottenberg needed to hit 105 to stay in it and he couldn't. But Lim couldn't win it either.

Bottenberg was sat on 44 to send it all the way if Lim couldn't hit 78. But he struck treble 18 first time and pinned double 12 for an incredible win.

While albeit it felt like a long time ago before but Beau Greaves ended the run of Jitka Cisarova in straight sets to set up a clash with Deta Hedman.

A mentor and doubles partner to Greaves, Hedman will be wary of the task that Greaves poses but the latter likely will be the biggest obstacle she will face en route to title number three.

Greaves would face either Lerena Rietbergen or Sophie McKinlay in the final after a wide open section in the bottom half and Cisarova didn't have the answers either.

Cisarova though produced the best leg of the first set, but it ultimately went in the direction of Greaves as she showed her class winning it 3-1. After a poor leg to start the second, Greaves showed her class with a 79 checkout and a 17 darter and it was a 12-darter to finish. True class as she went 180, 95, 180, 46 checkout to claim the win. The dream remains alive for both Lim and Greaves.

She has no competition here. Even Mikuru couldn't be bothered to enter.
