The first Quarter-Finals are complete at the 2023 WDF
Lakeside World Championship with
Rhian O'Sullivan and
Dennis Nilsson into the semi-finals in Frimley Green.
O'Sullivan seen as likely Beau Greaves' biggest challenge this week took down darting legend, Deta Hedman 2-0 in sets in a clinical display of finishing.
She was excellent to start the clash not losing a single leg until the second set starting off with combination shots of 68, 70 and 77 en route to the opener. Hedman got into the match in the second set breaking throw before doing so again after a bust from O'Sullivan to go 2-1 up. But amid missed set darts, O'Sullivan found her way through in two.
Dennis Nilsson on the other hand defeated a certain Wesley Plaisier who many saw as a potential title challenger this week. The former strongman from Sweden is the first player from the country to reach the Lakeside semi's since Magnus Caris in 1994.
Nilsson blasted his way into a 2-0 lead as Plaisier had to attempt to fight back in the race to four with the Swede already half way to the finishing line. Plaisier stormed out of the break averaging 112.7 as he took the third in 40 darts. But after dropping four legs on the spin back came the big Swede with back-to-back 14 darters to move him to within three.
In a decider in the fifth, Nilsson left 36 with Plaisier unable to get a crack at 167 and the confidence all match translated into a third match dart going into double nine for the win.
