𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗦! Peter Wright produces the fourth ton-plus average of the night in seeing off Damon Heta.
Peter Wright is through to the Quarter-Finals of the World Series of Darts Finals after dispatching Damon Heta in a 6-3 victory.
Wright hit a 101.5 average, four 180’s and 60% on doubles en route to seeing off ‘The Heat’ as he set up a tie with Daryl Gurney.
Wright to begin the tie eased into a 4-1 lead as he looked to gain an unassailable margin with missed doubles for Heta being the difference. This saw ‘Snakebite’ lead by three legs despite only averaging 92.
Heta hit his first 180 and hit a 65 finish to make it 4-2 though and to keep himself in it. Wright though went one away from victory with a third 180 and double eight for a 12-darter.
‘The Heat’ saved the match with a 61 finish to close the gap to 5-3 but Wright claimed victory in a quality final leg from ‘Snakebite’.
Rob Cross is also through to the Quarter-Finals in Salzburg after a whitewash win over an out of sorts Steve Beaton – who couldn’t reproduce after Friday’s win over Simon Whitlock.
For Cross who hit 6/13 on the doubles, it is a return to form of sorts for ‘Voltage’ who has struggled so far this year but could this be a turning point?
He started phenomenally well on the doubles going 3-0 up including checkouts of 90 and 52 with his only missed dart coming as part of a 52 checkout where he missed double 16 before hitting it last dart in hand.
From there, he took out 64 to make it 4-0 with his average up at 97 while Beaton cut a forlorn figure at only 79. The former World Champion was soon away and into a 5-0 lead as his doubles percentage went down to 50% but he was on the verge in the tie.
He concluded the tie when Beaton missed two at double 10 despite Cross initially straying into 16 for a 70 checkout after hitting treble 18 but second time around, he hit double eight for the win.
