Gurney produces impressive display to ease past Harris, Price continues form with victory over Van der Voort

Daryl Gurney returned to the stage and to his Sweet Caroline walk-on in front of fans and it seemed to do the trick as he claimed an impressive victory over Cody Harris.

Gurney hit the highest average of the tournament up to that point with 102.2 which included four 180’s and two ton-plus finishes as he saw off ‘Code Star’ in a 6-2 victory.

This ton plus finishing began the tie with 107 being hit to claim the opening leg. Harris made it 1-1 but from there, Gurney went into a 4-1 lead which included a 124 checkout with 20, T18 and Bull as he headed into the break in fine fashion.

He missed three at doubles and Harris returned to go 4-2 behind but this proved nothing more than a blip in the road for ‘Superchin’ as he hit double 16 in the requisite leg to go one away. Harris missed a dart in the following leg to keep himself in the tie and Gurney pinned double 20 to make it through.

Gerwyn Price produced some brilliance during the PDC Autumn Series winning back-to-back titles which he will hope to take to Salzburg and he has got through his first hurdle against Vincent van der Voort. He won through against ‘The Dutch Destroyer’ 6-3 with a 101.4 average, 6/13 on the doubles and a 124 checkout en route.

Price began the tie with Van der Voort by taking command in the form of a 2-0 lead with the latter only averaging 70 in the early going. But despite that, the Dutchman turned it around despite only increasing his average to 83 making it 3-2 at the break.

When they returned, Price continued to cement his lead though with a 13-darter on double 20 to make it 4-2. Van der Voort held his throw to go to 4-3 but Price produced what turned out to be a pivotal 124 checkout to go one away.

He concluded the tie pinning 42 with a brilliant 177 set up shot leaving 42 with Van der Voort originally first to a finish.
