Peter Wright marked his first match since becoming World Champion with a 10-7 victory over Joe Cullen as he made sure of his place in the final day of action at the Masters.

Wright averaged 103.6 in a close tie with Cullen who kept on his coat tails throughout but a surge from ‘Snakebite’ saw him win through to a tie with Dave Chisnall tomorrow.

Wright made a flying start to proceedings smashing in a 121 checkout and a 130 to follow that up to lead 2-1 against Cullen in the early going.

Cullen made a mess of his setup in the requisite leg and that allowed Wright to punish with a 90 checkout to make it 3-1.

Despite that at the interval, it was 3-2 as Cullen hit double eight to go one behind despite averaging 20 points less than his opponent.

Cullen continued to stay with him breaking throw with an 88 checkout on the bull to go 4-3 in front but Wright hit his third ton-plus checkout in four legs hitting 101 to break back at 4-4.

‘The Rockstar’ came in on the act himself hitting a 121 checkout for a 12-darter to level up at 5-5. Wright went 6-5 up but still had Cullen there and he continued his fine finishing hitting a 106.

A 10-darter from Wright proved to be a catalyst though as he went 7-6 up and broke to go two clear at 8-6. It was three consecutive legs for Snakebite as he hit double 16 to go 9-6 up.

Cullen hit a 13-darter though to keep a hold of the contest and go 9-7 behind. Despite that though, Wright hit double 16 to hold and claim victory.
