David Cameron may make his appearance at the
World Seniors Darts Matchplay in York later this year. The darter from Canada secured a starting spot Sunday through the qualifying tournament in Reading.
Cameron successively defeated Kevin Merritt (5-2), Darren Johnson (5-3), Mike Norton (5-4), Vince Tipple (5-4) and Michael Taylor (6-3) to qualify for the final. In the final match, he outlasted Andy Boulton 6-5.
The Canadian is certainly no stranger to the darts circuit. He played eight times at the BDO/WDF World Championship and twice competed at the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace. Cameron also has experience on the World Seniors Darts Tour. He even won the 2022 World Seniors Darts Masters by beating Phil Taylor in the final.
Earlier this weekend, James Richardson also secured participation in the World Seniors Darts Matchplay through a qualifying tournament. Fifteen of the sixteen participants have now been announced. Also among the participants are Phil Taylor, Leonard Gates, Glen Durrant, Robert Thornton, Trina Gulliver, Martin Adams, Lisa Ashton, Kevin Painter, John Henderson, Chris Mason, Neil Duff, Paul Hogan and Matt Clark.
The 2024 World Seniors Darts Matchplay will take place this year on Oct. 4 and 5. In 2023, the tournament was won by Gates, who won 9-6 over Jim McEwan in the final.
