Fourth time lucky as Richie Howson finally secures seniors TV title at Champion of Champions

Richie Howson has crowned himself the winner of the World Seniors Champion of Champions. 'The Owl' had lost his first three finals on the World Seniors Darts Tour, but in the end it proved to be fourth time lucky.

Howson finished second at the 2023 Senior World Championship, the World Senior Masters and the Champion of Champions tournament. At the latter tournament, he lost in the final to Leonard Gates. This year, however, Howson dealt with the American in the first round. In the semifinals, he proved too strong for Martin Adams.

In the final, the 58-year-old Englishman faced Andy Hamilton, who had reached the final with wins over John Henderson and Richard Eirig-Rowlands. 'The Hammer' is making his debut on the senior circuit this year and was already in the quarterfinals of the World Seniors Darts Championship in February.

Hamilton started the final strong by winning the first three legs, but five of the next six legs went to Howson. Hamilton then seemed to take over again by taking an 8-6 lead, but saw Howson step up.

Including two 14-darters and a 13-darter, Howson made it 12-9. Hamilton posted a rebreak with an 18-darter, but then the verdict was decided. With a 13-darter Howson decided the match.
