Leonard Gates sealed a commanding win to open his
World Seniors Darts Championship campaign over Tony O'Shea as 'The Soulger' brought his talents, dance moves and of course miscounts to the Circus Tavern.
"It feels great, it's just getting out there, getting used to the stage and atmosphere. Once you get into a groove, it just flows now but that was a great feeling definitely," said Gates to Online Darts.
Having competed in the PDC World Championship in December as well as the WDF last April, he compared the World Seniors with the former.
"I liked it a lot, it's personal. With the Ally Pally, you've got more of an open space. Here they can actually see what you do."
Next up is a certain Martin Adams who Gates admitted he studied on YouTube and watched his game.
"I watched his game and watched him a lot back in the day. A lot of YouTube and I'm just like this guy is good. In the BDO, he was just reigning, just killing it so I want to see what his energy is like when I play him."
He also spoke about the growth of darts in North America and urged players to come over and give it a go.
"It's still going and it's building more. North America guys, girls if you want to play darts, the opportunity is there. Myself, Jules van Dongen, Danny Baggish, Matt Campbell, David Cameron, Jeff Smith are all showing you the way, let's come over here and join what the UK has got going on."
