Steve Beaton continues to do well in his first appearance at the World Seniors Darts Championship. The 60-year-old Englishman comfortably defeated Paul Hogan 3-0 in the second round and will now take on Richie Burnett in the quarterfinals.
Beaton was particularly relieved afterwards. "I was nervous again going up there, but I could see Paul was nervous as well and that helped me a bit really," he admitted to the media post-match. "I didn't settle until that third set, and then he started playing well. But I'd found a rhythm."
'The Bronzed Adonis' turned in his PDC Tour Card early this year and is making his debut at a World Seniors Darts Tour tournament this week. There's no doubting the fact this still matters to Beaton though. "Of course it does!" He reiterates firmly. "I still want to win."
As mentioned, Beaton is now set to take on Welshman Richie Burnett in the quarterfinals. The two have storied history with each other too. Not only were they regular opponents for years at first the BDO and then the PDC, in 1996 Beaton famously won his BDO World Championship title at the Lakeside by winning 6-3 over Burnett in the final.
"I know I can still do it," Beaton concludes. "Darts is all about getting yourself prepared for the stage and getting yourself ready. I'm getting to ease into it a little bit now, I'm hoping tomorrow be a bit more of a less pressure game."
