John Henderson is on the verge of the World Seniors Darts Tour triple crown of the World's, Matchplay and
World Seniors Darts Masters reaching the final of the latter and ending the run of
Paul Hogan in the process.
Henderson became the World Seniors Darts Champion at the first time of asking defeating Colin McGarry 5-0 in the final. Then he won the World Seniors Darts Matchplay last month beating Leonard Gates 9-6 in the final. With no 'Soulger', he has carried the mantle this weekend and saw off Hogan 5-3 in sets (13-10 in legs).
He now faces either his good friend Robert Thornton or the rising Welshman, Richard Eirig Rowlands in the final with the latter looking to make a maiden WSDT major final. They face off shortly. but Henderson will be the man to beat.
Henderson set his stall out early with a 12 dart 96 checkout ton break the throw immediately. He sealed the set with a 15 darter. Hogan came back with a 116 checkout to start set two before sealing his retort on double eight for 1-1 in sets.
At the second break, Hogan though edged ahead 3-2 in sets after they both exchanged the lead. Hogan had led 2-1 before Henderson came back for 2-2. But the impetus lay with Crocodile Dundee.
Only for back-to-back 15 dart legs on throw to level the tie up and leave it finely poised. In fact for a Henderson revival as he survived multiple set darts at 3-3 and he nailed the 91 to hit the front in a race to five and in fact Henderson used that as a catalyst to head towards the winning line.
Henderson hit an 80 checkout to lead 1-0 at 4-3. Hogan came back with a 92 but Henderson hit his favourite double 20 for the win.
