Phil Taylor is also a miss with the 16-time World Champion retiring with a whimper with recent hip surgery meaning he can't take part. Kevin Painter also decided against playing. Both will have roles with the commentary/punditry team. Martin Adams, Robert Thornton, John Henderson among others though make up the line-up.
As with the World Masters tournaments previously, the Masters uses the set format. With each set being a best of three legs or first to two legs. The preliminary and first round as well as the Quarter-Finals is best of sevens ets. The semi-finals best of nine sets and the final best of 11 sets.
The World Seniors Darts Masters will be televised live only in the United Kingdom. The broadcaster TNT Sports has acquired the rights to the event.
For darts fans outside the United Kingdom, an alternative has been found. They can follow the proceedings by subscribing to Discovery +.
Each participant is guaranteed to receive £750 in starting money. Quarterfinalists will receive £1,250, semifinalists will receive £2,500, the runner-up will win £5,000, and the winner of the World Seniors Matchplay will go home with a sum of £10,000.
