John Part and
Mark Dudbridge are the latest players into the Last 16 at the 2023
World Seniors Darts Championship in contrasting displays to start Friday evening's action at the Circus Tavern.
Part faced off against debutant Co Stompé who got the crowd dancing to Bob Marley, had a superb dart shirt and showed that he still has his trademark throw but it was a hard fought 3-2 triumph for 'Darth Maple' in the end.
The first set went the way of 'The Matchstick' who came from 2-0 down to seal it 3-2 with Part missing a set dart at 94 and the Dutchman pinned double 20.
Part led in a set 2-0 once more but this time, he closed it out leaving double 20 and he pinned double 10 after Stompé missed a dart at 65. But the next set saw Part go one set away with a superb 126 checkout on the bull.
It went all the way and after Part missed 96, Stompé stepped in to claim it and hold but Part in the end ran away with the end of the tie hitting double 16.
After that tie came the return to action of Glen Durrant who showed signs that he has banished some of the darting demons which saw a tumultuous two years since winning the Premier League and leaving the PDC.
But Mark Dudbridge was just too good in the end producing the highest average so far in the form of 89 in a 3-0 straight sets win which you could say was done in a 'Flash'.
Durrant took the opening leg but Dudbridge took the lead and the set on double 16 before starting set two with a superb 100 checkout which he followed with a 154.
The writing was on the wall as Durrant missed three darts for 2-2 in the second set and Dudbridge led 2-0 and he breezed to the win from there pinning double 20. Some positives to take for Durrant who received a superb reception as well but it is the former World Master who returns tomorrow to face Terry Jenkins.
