Dave Prins produced a quality display at times to open up his
World Seniors Darts Championship campaign with a 3-1 triumph over Paul Lim.
Prins averaged 90 as he took down the legendary Singapore Slinger and next has another nine-dart hero in his sights in 'Old Stoneface' John Lowe.
Lim started first but it was Prins who claimed an opening break with a 101 checkout. The former broke straight back though only for Prins to return again for double 20 to go 2-1 up and he was throwing for the opening set.
A 74 checkout saw Prins seal the opening set in quality fashion. He sealed double 16 to continue his control to open set two.
Lim missed 77 for a hold of throw and Prins took out 120 for a 2-0 lead as he went one away from a two sets lead. ‘The Singapore Slinger’ got only his second leg of the match as he broke to make it 2-1. A 106 checkout saw Prins take the second set as he went one away.
Prins broke to begin the third set on double 20. He missed double 20 for a 74 checkout to hold and Lim took out 71 for a break back. But despite having chances to go 2-1 up and throw for the match, he spurned four darts.
He hit back-to-back 180’s and pinned 180 to go one away again. He began with a 140 and 100 opening salvo against the Lim darts and 135 left 126 for Prins.
Lim left 70 and was handed the chance to take it out for a set which he did on double 20. Prins began the next set though well but missed multiple opportunities including a dart which bounced out of double 10 allowing Lim a break chance which he couldn’t take.
The North East ace returned for double 10 for the first leg. Lim levelled up from there as he looked to take the game to Prins and force a deciding set.
Prins went 2-1 up but Lim produced double eight to make it 2-2 only for Prins to hit 180 in the decider to go the brink again and he hit an 80 checkout to move through.
