The 2023 World Seniors Champion of Champions has begun in Blackpool with Richie Howson who lost in the final of the World Seniors Darts Championship last month getting his revenge against Robert Thornton.

Howson sealed it 10-6 with an 82 average and now faces either David Cameron or Kevin Painter in the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon.

Howson dominated in the early stages going 4-1 up. He missed a dart to hold but Thornton couldn’t break and ‘The Owl’ returned for double eight to seal a 5-2 lead.

Howson set himself up from 137 to leave double 20 with Thornton needing 161 and ‘The Thorn’ went the wrong side of the wire on treble three and Howson returned for double 20 to go 6-2 up with another break.

Thornton missed double 20 for 114 but Howson couldn’t pin 144. More darts at his beloved double 20 went begging though for Thornton and Howson got a shot at 84 which he missed on the bull.

Thornton went up to double five and broke back for 6-3. He pinned 72 to go 6-4 down as the interval occurred.

Howson returned from the break and regathered momentum at 7-4. Thornton held at 7-5 but Howson was still only three away. He missed three darts to hold and Thornton took aim at 42 only to miss again at his favourite target and Howson escaped into an 8-5 lead.

Howson missed 67 to go one away but 167 wasn’t doable for Thornton. Howson blocked his path to the double 20 again though and Thornton got a chance at a lifeline only to miss 74 and ‘The Owl’ made it 9-5.

Howson missed the bull off 95 for the win and Thornton stayed in it on double four. Howson missed the bull again for the win off 119 but Thornton missed three more darts only for Howson to again miss two more.

Thornton missed three at double five as the misses continued and Howson took a deep breath and pinned double four at the edge of the bed.
