Phil Taylor will return on Sunday afternoon to face Richie Howson at the 2023
World Seniors Darts Championship after a superb 3-1 sets win from 'The Power' over 'Dynamite' Darren Johnson.
Along the way, Taylor produced a moment of brilliance in the form of a 161 checkout showing form is temporary, class is permanent and he will now conflict the crowd who have also been behind 'The Owl' who is a local lad this weekend.
He took the opening set in a deciding leg producing a timely 180 to seal it with an 83 checkout 3-2. But Johnson wasn't going to lie down taking the second set 3-1 to draw level.
That aforementioned 161 checkout came through from Taylor who went 2-1 up in the set as a result as he went towards going one away.
This seemed to break Johnson's spirit as Taylor produced a 13 and 15-darter back to back in a late surge towards the finishing line sealing the win.
He was joined finally by
Darryl Fitton who battled past John Part in a 3-2 win and will face the superb Leonard Gates in the Quarter-Finals tomorrow.
As expected it was a hard fought battle between the pair eventually taken by 'The Dazzler' who produced a superb 88 checkout to go 2-1 up but saw Part battle back before surging ahead again towards the finishing line sweeping the deciding set with no need for a tie-break.
