Danny Baggish claimed the North American Championship in dramatic fashion in Las Vegas with a thrilling victory over current champion Jeff Smith in the final.

Baggish who impressed during his defeat to Daryl Gurney receives the $10,000 top prize and will make his debut in the 2019/2020 PDC World Championship at the Alexandra Palace.

He rode his luck though at times in claiming the title. The Guam-born thrower was 2-1 down to Elliot Milk in his quarter-final tie but came back to reel off five straight legs for the win.

During his match against Leonard Gates, he was 5-3 down and had to hit a 140 checkout to survive in the contest before surviving one match dart in the deciding leg against ‘Soldier’.

His final tie also went to a last leg but it was Smith that came back. Baggish himself was 3-0 up and even extended his lead to 4-1 and 5-2 but ‘The Silencer’ survived one match dart and came back to reduce the scoreline to 5-4.

It was then taken to a last leg decider and Smith even missed the bull for victory before Baggish came back to win the title on tops in what was an emotional conclusion.

Like alluded to he will now have further opportunities on the PDC stage and joins Willard Bruguier III and his final opponent Jeff Smith in claiming the title in it’s short history.
