Ashton edges past Winstanley, Vandenbogaerde fends off comeback from Olde Kalter

Lisa Ashton and Mario Vandenbogaerde are both through to the latter stages of the 2020 BDO World Championship to begin the evening session at the Indigo at the O2.

Ashton defeated Winstanley in a 2-0 win but it was a lot more closer than the scoreline suggested. 'The Lancashire Rose' edged it just though on the doubles hitting 24 percent compared to 11 percent.

To begin the tie, it was 2-2 and finely poised but Ashton claimed it to get an early foothold in the contest. Winstanley herself went 2-1 up in the next set and seemed to be heading towards the finishing line but Ashton set up a decider and claimed the tie to set up a semi-final with Corrine Hammond.

Vandenbogaerde on the otherhand fended off a comeback from Dennie Olde Kalter to set up a Quarter-Final tie with David Evans, as 'Super Mario' begins to go under the radar in London.

In the first set, the averages were really close between the pair but despite that, it was the Belgian who took it in a whitewash. It continued to go smoothly for Vandenbogaerde as he took the next one also without reply to go 2-0 up and he went one away from there at 3-0.

Olde Kalter began to play with freedom as a result and claimed a set in which he avoided the whitewash with a brilliant 82 checkout and he rallied from there to take it 3-2.

Despite that, Vandenbogaerde took the next set 3-0 to claim the victory and fend off any late hope.
