This weekend will see the welcome addition of new live sports content - courtesy of the recently formed Remote Darts League (RDL) for WDF players.

Over a 10-day period starting Saturday 18th at 21:30pm GMT, 10 professional WDF players, including Jim Williams who tops the BDO rankings, will be competing for the inaugural RDL trophy, plus of course the bragging rights. It all culminates on day 10 with the top 4 players in the league competing in a semi/finals knockout contest. After a couple of days respite, a new tournament starts again.
Players are playing from home and have been practising hard with the remote technology to make this a great spectacle. £25k in prize money is up for grabs, so this is fun, but serious fun. Matches will be available to watch live on youtube and also on selected bookmaker sites.
“It’s great to be able to offer some high-quality live sports content in these difficult times”, notes Kevin Dale, Producer from the host organisation Farawaysports. “Darts fans will be pleased to see many familiar faces at the oche – all hosted by our experienced Master of Ceremonies, Richard Ashdown.”
Remote sports are especially relevant in the context of Covid-19 but they have legs in the future too, not least because the world has shifted these last few weeks. People are becoming more comfortable with remote modes of working and enjoying leisure activities.
Jim Williams, BDO No.1, is sounding confident: “Playing at home has never been so nerve-wracking. Even without the crowds in the background, you really feel the pressure of that camera lens. The good news though is that I’ve been on a roll in our practice matches – time to bring it on for real!”
Alan Norris, Darryl Fitton, Dean Winstanley, Gary Robson, James Richardson, John Walton, Paul Hogan, Tony O'Shea and Wes Newton are the other nine players in this competition.
