Mario Vandenbogaerde is through a tough test to reach the semi-final stages at the 2020 BDO World Championship defeating David Evans 5-3 in the end.
Vandenbogaerde hit seven maximums with an 89 average and a high checkout of 124 as he saw off his fellow debutant who has been impressive in his run to the Quarter-Finals.
The Belgian nearly ran away with it in the early stages going into a 2-0 lead in double quick time with Evans missing multiple opportunities in set two to level proceedings up.
'Stretch' didn't allow his opponent to extend his lead though and he halved the deficit to 2-1 with the momentum now in his favour.
'Super Mario' though re-established his two set cushion as Evans couldn't couldn't continue his form and the former went 3-1 up and two away.
Evans' fightback continue though and he made it 3-3 after Vandenbogaerde couldn't finish the job to make it 4-2 after the former claimed another set back.
It was another scrappy set following that which the Belgian won and he claimed a clean sweep in the next to win the tie and move through.
