The next players to move through to the second round at the European Championship have been confirmed with Rob Cross and Jonny Clayton moving through.

Cross recovered from 2-0 down to defeat Darren Webster 6-3, it was a good performance from ‘Voltage’ who will be aiming to put a poor Champions League of Darts behind him.

After going 2-0 down, he claimed three consecutive legs and led at the interval 3-2 and despite both players producing 180’s in the requisite leg, Cross opened up a two leg cushion at 6-2 up.

Webster finally stopped the rot but this only reduced the deficit to 4-3 despite him having a break of throw. Cross as a result broke straight back to go 5-3 up and from there it was very pedestrian for Voltage who moves through.

It was even more pedestrian for Jonny Clayton who in going through whitewashed James Wade. ‘The Machine’ is the defending champion in the tournament but there will be potentially a new name on it this year.

Clayton averaged 111 in victory with Wade down at 82.3. He was seriously clinical taking out 75 percent on the doubles and showing his rivals that he is one to watch this weekend.

Wade was slow out of the gate and this allowed Clayton to go 2-0 up with ease and he watched him hold his throw to go half way to victory.

‘The Ferret’ started to produce some brilliant checkouts including a 130 and a 106 to go 5-0 up and it was up to Wade to produce but Clayton simply wasn’t missing and claimed victory.
