Don't Start The Party: Peter Wright ready for lengthy Coronavirus-enforced break

Peter Wright is having to find competition wherever he can find it at the moment.

Aside from duking it out on the practice oche with isolation buddy Dimitri van den Bergh, the world champion has paid close attention to the Walk-On World Cup. Despite being an early favourite, Wright was knocked out in the semi-finals.

"I would have picked Devon Petersen to win it," Wright told BBC Sport.

"Lots of players are dancing now but they're younger and do it better than me. I'm just an old guy jumping across the stage!

"Maybe I'll get some lessons from Dimitri."

It may be a while until he can bust out any new dance moves. The Scot's first season as world champion has been put on hold, and it's unclear which events will survive the coronavirus-enforced break.

Wright was due to spend the summer touring as part of the World Series. Yet with the world on lockdown, trips to the likes of New York and Woolongong are on hold.

"I don't know if we're going or not, obviously because Australia and everywhere else is on lockdown.

"Fingers crossed, everything is sorted by then," Wright said.

"I miss all of the crowds and the fans. It's very difficult. But if everyone does as they're told, we'll hopefully be out there much quicker and all of the sports and everyone's life will get back to normal hopefully.

"Personally, I don't think there will be anything until September, but hopefully I'm wrong and we can get back on at the end of May or June."
