There's one German left on the last day of a European Tour event. But it's not Max Hopp lighting up the International Darts Open. Nor is it Martin Schindler, Gabriel Clemens or even Robert Marijanovic.
Gütersloh-born 52-year-old Michael Rosenauer is the toast of Saxony this weekend. He heads into Sunday as Riesa's favourite son, having surprised both Mike de Decker and Krzysztof Ratajski. The dream of following Hopp's example and claiming European Tour glory is still on. Glen Durrant will also feel like the International Darts Open is there for the taking. And having defied a ton average from James Richardson to win on Saturday, he'll feel that he has more than enough to disappoint the home faithful.
That game is sandwiched by two all-seed encounters. Daryl Gurney plays Steve Beaton after surviving a scare from Danny Noppert before it, and afterwards Nathan Aspinall faces Ricky Evans. In the fourth game of the session, defending champion Gerwyn Price looks to build on the 106 average mustered up against Kyle Anderson.
The Iceman faces another of the weekend's surprise packages. It's almost three years to the day since Joe Murnan played a European Tour Sunday. With Dutch stars Jelle Klaasen and Jeffrey de Zwaan brushed aside, can the Bolton man make it a hat-trick of scalps?
Rockstar faces Cross challenge
In the highest-profile last 16 tie, Peter Wright tussles with Mensur Suljovic. The Austrian isn't the quickest player but even he zoomed through Saturday's play, averaging 101 in a whitewash against Harry Ward.
Adrian Lewis had a bit of aggro against William O'Connor, but didn't let it put him off. Jonny Clayton doesn't court controversy but he does provide another challenge for Jackpot. The Welshman won't want to fall behind early like he did against Steffan Siepmann; Lewis isn't likely to be as vulnerable to a comeback.
Joe Cullen winning the European Darts Matchplay was impressive. Winning the International Darts Open with a borrowed darts set and shirt, cutting about the oche in trainers, would be a step beyond. With any luck his luggage nightmare will be resolved by the time he takes to the stage. He could do with having a familiar setup; beating Rob Cross is hard work at the best of times. Voltage was outstanding in a second round thrashing of John Henderson.
The session ends with the game they're already calling the Compass Derby (if they're not, they really should). North plays West in Riesa; for one, their International Darts Open hopes are about to go south. But now the two English non-seeds have their bearings, Richard North and Steve West are both in a position to navigate their way to the quarter finals.
