Luke Humphries is through to the second round at the 2020 PDC World Championship after a clinical display to dispel Devon Petersen.

Humphries continues his love affair with the Alexandra Palace as he takes out four ton plus checkouts including a magnificent 160 checkout en route to victory where he punished only 28 percent on doubles from Petersen. Can ‘Cool Hand Luke’ produce the goods again this year?

Humphries started the tie in style hitting a 112 checkout after Petersen had won the first leg; but it was the latter who went 2-1 ahead holding his throw.

Humphries sent it to a decider though breaking back and clinching the first set punishing only 20 percent on the doubles from his opponent.

Petersen went onto level the tie up though at 1-1 in another deciding leg with ‘The African Warrior’ taking out 94 and both players averaging around the 92 mark.

He wasn’t so lucky to start the next set hitting back to back 180’s but losing the leg as Humphries pounced and doubled his lead from there with a 106 checkout.

It did go to a decider though with Humphries going close to a whitewash set but despite that, ‘Cool Hand Luke’ held his nerve with a 105 checkout to go one set away.

They jostled for position to begin the requisite set both holding their throws. A 160 checkout saw the Newbury ace go one away and make it the fourth ton plus checkout of the match for him.

A 174 set up from Petersen was registered null and void as Humphries finished it off with a 72 checkout.
