O'Hara ensures Irish success at 2023 JDC European Open

Irish talent Aidan O'Hara won the 2023 JDC European Open last Sunday. The JDC European Open consisted of a series of JDC tournaments played in Dublin last weekend.

The Junior Darts Corporation held four tournaments from July 29-30 at the Fettercairn Community Centre in Dublin. The player who finished highest on the combined rankings of these tournaments was crowned European Open Champion at the end of the weekend. O'Hara won the first and fourth tournaments and also reached the semifinals in the third tournament, putting him at the top of the ranking with 19 points. In addition, the 15-year-old Irishman also threw the highest match average of the weekend. With an average of 100.20, he defeated David Flynn in a 3-0 victory at the last 32 at the first tournament of the weekend.

O'Hara was not the only successful Irishman at the JDC European Open. The second and third spots of the European Open Ranking were also held by Irishmen, Sean McKeon and James Morris respectively. McKeon reached two finals last weekend, while Morris managed to win one of the tournaments. The fourth spot on the ranking was held by Jack Nankervis. The English teenager, who also won the JDC Foundation Tour this year, won the third tournament and finished on 10 points, as did Irishman Luke Dooley. The leg balance decided in favor of the Englishman, putting Dooley fifth on the European Open ranking.

"In only our second European Open outside the United Kingdom, the attendance was fantastic and the level was certainly very decent as well,'' JDC Director of Operations Darren Barson said of the weekend in Dublin. "It was a pleasure to be at the home of JDC Ireland and the home of the Hornets Darts Academy. They put on a great event.''
