We've already seen different shades of Dave Chisnall. He was nervy and wasteful against Josh Payne; then he was stirringly brilliant. The Chizzy who beat Kim Huybrechts was steady and deadly. If he keeps performing like he did against the Belgian, he could go a long way. Jamie Lewis has benefited from a lengthy break, following two final set deciders in the space of two games. Cody Harris and Daryl Gurney have been left by the wayside. Now last year's semi-finalist is aiming for another big scalp. A very vulnerable Gary Anderson awaits the winner.
Given that he was largely written off pre-tournament, Rob Cross has to be applauded for his consistency so far. Averages of 102.93 and 101.72 in 3-1 and 4-0 wins over excellent players - Jeffrey de Zwaan and Cristo Reyes respectively - is the makings of a perfect tournament defence. Cross knows he needs to keep those levels high. He meets a surprise package in Luke Humphries, who comfortably beat Dimitri van den Bergh on Thursday. He's up against it - but Humphries could yet spring another shock and shake up the World Championship even more.
