Richardson on MAD European Title defence against Thornton: "He will have the entire crowd in his corner but that won’t bother me"

James Richardson will defend his MAD European Title at the Volunteer Rooms in Irvine on September 17 against Robert Thornton.

Despite being the title holder, he will be the away player so to speak with Thornton likely bringing a big crowd on home soil to try and take the title off him and he's up for the fight.

“Being the MAD European Champion means a lot. I’ve never won anything of this significance before. I’m very proud to put my name to it," he said.

“Ever since I have held this belt, it was always my intention to be a fighting champion and defend it - unfortunately COVID got in the way.

“I’m very looking forward to it. Rob is a multiple PDC major champion. It will be a very tough match indeed.

“I’ve played him many times, both on the circuit and away from it. Rob is like me in many respects - fights right to the end and loves a battle.

“With the match being in Scotland, he will have the entire crowd in his corner but that won’t bother me. I can deal with the pressure so will blank it all out and just focus on my game. Then hopefully walk out of there with my title.”
