It was the final day of the Austrian Darts Championship, a European Tour tournament that saw the crowd get a dream final between home hero, Mensur Suljovic and then World Number One, Michael van Gerwen.
Suljovic had dealt with Adam Gawlas (6-2), James Wilson (6-2), Ian White (6-4) and Vincent van der Voort (7-4) on his way to the final. Van Gerwen defeated Kyle Anderson (6-2), Jeffrey de Zwaan (6-3), Ricky Evans (6-0) and Peter Wright (7-6).
In the final, Van Gerwen took a 2-0 and 6-3 lead, but in both cases Suljovic got the break back. Both players then held their throw leaving a decisive fifteenth leg to decide who would take the title at the Austrian Darts Championship.
The last leg was started by Van Gerwen, but the Dutchman did not produce with scores of 42 and 55. Suljovic started well with 140 and 96. Still, it was Van Gerwen who was the first to have a chance at the title, but from 84, Mighty Mike missed the bullseye. Then it was The Gentle who closed the game with a 70 check-out.
