In the international darts world, everything this week revolves around Q-School, where players in Kalkar and Milton Keynes are chasing a PDC Tour Card for the next two years. Former Tour Card holder Simon Whitlock is not among them, yet he still made headlines this weekend.
The MODUS Super Series hosted a ‘Seniors Week’ this week. Familiar names such as Robert Thornton, Neil Duff, Trina Gulliver, Steve West, and Kevin Painter faced off against each other.
But it was ultimately another former PDC top player who came out on top. Whitlock beat West 3-0 in the final and, for the first time in his long career, won a playing week in the MODUS Super Series.
Whitlock held a PDC Tour Card until the end of 2024 but then decided not to make another attempt at Q-School to regain it. ‘The Wizard’ chose to focus on the now-defunct Seniors Tour and to continue competing in, among others, the MODUS Super Series and the ANZ Premier League. He won the latter competition last year, which earned him a spot at the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship, where he lost 3-2 in the opening round to Connor Scutt.
Even so, there is a real chance we will still see a Whitlock on the PDC Pro Tour over the next two years. Son Mason is taking his shot at Q-School this week in the hope of securing that coveted PDC Tour Card.

No World Cup of Darts

Father Simon will not be idle in the coming months either. The former major winner and finalist at both the BDO World Championship and the PDC World Darts Championship remains in high demand for exhibition events. In addition, he wants to defend his title in the ANZ Premier League. He will, however, miss the World Cup of Darts for the first time since its inception, as alongside Damon Heta there is now Adam Leek as a second PDC Tour Card holder, and they naturally take precedence for this national team event.
