A shock occured after good early going from the favourites, World Number 15 Alan Norris beat young Aussie Corey Cadby 5-4. Similar to the De Zwaan/Bunting match, Norris was 4-1 up but Cadby pulled it back to 4-4 before 'Chuck' held his nerve to win the first group match in a group with Wright and Durrant as well. Despite saying he wouldn't get involved in any antics, he gave it some with celebrating especially in beating 'the King'.
Also before that, Berry van Peer shocked Simon Whitlock in the first match for both men of the Group Stage in a group that also features former World Champion Gary Anderson and his opponent this afternoon Cameron Menzies. Van Peer struggled massively with dartitis with his first dart but came through six match darts to hit D10 for the win in a really brave performance from the young Dutchman who even admitted after the game he thought he'd got rid of it but it has come back.
