The BDO World Championship schedule on Wednesday includes the final first round game, and five fixtures from the men's second round.

Three Dutchmen remain in the men's event at the Lakeside. Thanks to the draw and the schedule, that number will drop to two straight away. Wesley Harms and Willem Mandigers go head-to-head for the right to keep their country's interest in the BDO World Championship alive. Neither set the world alight in round one. Mandigers made the most of his chances to despite Paul Hogan having a much better average. And Harms was by Tony O'Shea. As fourth seed, Harms should be the favourite, but this one is still hard to call. Next on the stage is a very familiar face; ten-time world champion Trina Gulliver (MBE) is back for a 19th tilt at the title. The most experienced of faces will play the least; Karolina Podgorska steps up to the Lakeside oche for the very first time. There'll be plenty of intrigue as she flies the flag for Poland in the women's event. Top seed Lorraine Winstanley awaits the winner of this one. Wayne Warren achieved by far and away the best average of the first round. A helped him to cruise past compatriot Mark Layton. Now he takes on the fifth seed Michael Unterbuchner. The German was rattled and by the challenge of Justin Thompson. He had the class to pull through and will be the favourite here, but another strong Warren performance could make the T-Rex's title hopes extinct.

The Gladiator's next battle

Mark McGeeney was a little unconvincing in the first round - though he's certainly not alone in that regard. The difference between him and some others is that the top seed will want to start showing championship-winning form right away. Conan Whitehead in round one. He's a major threat to the 2018 runner-up's chances of going one better this time around. Should McGeeney fail to step up, the Gladiator really will be thrown to the lions. Jim Williams and Dean Reynolds are, along with Warren, Wales' last hopes. One will have to go, with the other potentially meeting Scott Mitchell in the quarter-finals. The pair know each other well but there'll be no love lost with Williams looking to match last year's run to the last eight, and Reynolds gunning for a first ever quarter-final. Williams averaged 92 in the first round, so he will be the favourite. Not that anyone will be discounting Reynolds' chances at all. The evening ends with Richard Veenstra contesting his second round tie against two-time Lakeside champion Scott Waites. The Flyer didn't exactly get off to one in the first round. But , and the Finder Darts Masters finalist can continue pushing on. Waites has been in seven Lakeside quarter-finals, including all of the last three. He'll feel he should once again claim one of the last eight spots, but he'll have to overcome the odds and a highly talented opponent to get there. for more information about the 2019 BDO Lakeside World Championship.
