Price missed four match darts in the final two legs and this allowed Cross to take advantage and steal a point from the tie.
Cross started off well with a Shanghai finish to hold his throw but Price responded with a 101 checkout to draw level.
The ton plus finishing continued with Cross hitting a 108 checkout to go 2-1 up in the tie to give a thrilling first few legs in the contest.
From there though when Cross went 3-2 up, Price started to go into the ascendancy going into the lead for the first time.
He hit a fourth consecutive leg to go 5-3 up and despite Cross staying on his tail he always brought his two leg cushion back.
Cross got back to 6-5 in an example of this but Price had an excellent leg following that to keep his two leg lead.
Then the turning point came, Price missed match darts and following that was made to pay by Cross who took the leg and then the point following that.
