Gurney reeled off four straight legs to claim the win and hit a 99 average en route.
Wright started off well achieving a break of throw after a poor showing last week when he changed darts.
Gurney though came straight back firing with a 104 checkout to not give Wright the chance to extend his lead.
It was an even start to proceedings though with Wright pegging back Gurney when he took the lead.
This included a thrilling 124 checkout on the bull in a moment that could have been a catalyst for Wright.
Despite that though, a hold and a break from Gurney wrestled it back firmly in his favour.
Three legs on the spin gave Gurney a guaranteed point and from there he claimed the win as he looks to keep pace with the top four.
