Durrant looking for classic repeat and ending open hoodoo

BDO Lakeside World Champion Glen Durrant will be heading to The Spa, Bridlington over the weekend of the 22^nd to 24^th September 2017 to defend his Winmau British Classic title. The Classic will run alongside one of the BDO’s flagship events, The British Open. Now in its 43^rd year, its one of the longest running events in the history of the sport.
As usual the Friday evening will see the British Open Men’s and Ladies Pairs event being played to a finish, with the Winmau British Classic singles on the Saturday and the British Open singles on the Sunday, rounding off a superb weekend of BDO darts.
The Classic was first staged in 1997 so this year will be the 21^st time the trophy and title has been contested. World Champion Glen Durrant defends the Men’s title and will be hoping to repeat his form and triumph from 12 months ago. Its not going to be easy though for ‘Duzza’ with all the big name players playing really well throughout 2017 he’s going to face tough competition notably from Mark McGeeney, Scott Mitchell, Jamie Hughes and an inform Jim Williams who followed up his Swiss Open success earlier this year with a title triumph in the recent Antwerp Open and French Open events. It promisies to be a fabulous weekend of darts with the 43^rd BDO British Open rounding things off on the Sunday.
Scotland’s Cameron Menzies will be defending his Men’s title in this one and a certain Glen Durrant will be hoping to end his British Open hoodoo having never lifted the title or made the final. From when Alan Evans lifted the very first British Open title in 1975 its always been classed as one of the toughest and hardest events to win on the BDO Calender and that’s certainly proving the case for Durrant.
New BDO World Number One Mark McGeeney will once again fancy his chances of adding yet another title to his collection in 2017.
In the ladies events Deta Hedman will be defending her BDO British Open title and will be hoping to replicate her triumph from last year where she defeated England’s Lisa Ashton. Claire Brookin is the defending Ladies Classic Champion but both Deta and Claire are going to face very stiff competition because so many ladies are playing at the very top of their game right now, none more so than Lorraine Winstanley who has enjoyed a very successful year up to now and along with Aileen De Graaf they will be tough to beat. Last years Classic runner up Wales’ Rhian Griffiths is more than capable of going one better this time around and she too like Lorraine and Aileen is in form and full of confidence.
