Five of the world's top six take to the Saarbrucken stage. James Wade is slightly adrift of the top five, but the world number nine has enjoyed an excellent
European Tour campaign so far. His bid to return to the sport's top table continues this weekend. He takes on another English veteran in the form of Mervyn King. Following them is Daryl Gurney, who enjoyed a fine night in Sheffield. He will look to continue his Premier League momentum as he faces home favourite Rene Eidams. 2017 German Darts Open runner-up Benito van de Pas desperately needs a good run. The out-of-form Dutchman meets Paul Nicholson, who beat the dangerous Nathan Aspinall on Friday.
World number one van Gerwen then enters the fray. His match against fellow Dutchman Danny Noppert could well be a very entertaining affair. The highlight for the German crowd, however, will undoubtedly be the game following that. Max Hopp, who always gets a rousing reception in his home nation, was superb against Zoran Lerchbacher in round one. He now meets defending champion and crowd-pleaser Wright.
In a more sedate affair, Joe Cullen meets fellow English youngster Luke Humphries, whose best performances this season have been on the continent. Mensur Suljovic, now shorn of Premier League responsibilities, meets the quick-fire Jermaine Wattimena. Rob Cross stars in the last tie of the night. It is set up to be a thriller as well, with Dimitri van den Bergh standing between him and the third round. The duo met for a sparkling World Championship battle in December.
The action is live on
PDC TV, and kicks off at 6.15pm.
