The
Grand Slam of Darts continues this evening at the Wolves Civic. 32 stars from the
PDC and BDO clash, with £450,000 on offer to the winner.
This evening we get 4 clashes between the PDC's best and 4 featuring PDC vs BDO in what will be a great end to the first day in Wolverhampton.
Gerwyn Price vs Steve Lennon - The evening session kicks off with a clash from Group B with Gerwyn Price taking on Steve Lennon. This is one of the most underrated ties of the first round of group games with both men playing well this year. Lennon a potential star of the future will make his major debut here and it will be interesting to see how the Carlow native plays on the Wolves stage.
James Wade vs Robbie Green - Following that is an intriguing one from Group C, James Wade has not been in brilliant form this year and apart from showing flashes of brilliance is not the usual Machine, he is up against another player who's not had a great year and that is Robbie Green. 'Kong' reached a Quarter and a semi-Final in April on the Pro Tour but since then up to qualifying for Wolverhampton he has not had another run far into a tournament so will be looking to put that right this weekend.
Darren Webster vs Mark Webster - Then it is the battle of the Websters with Darren Webster taking on Mark Webster. In a Group with Gurney and Noppert, Darren due to how he has been playing this year for the most part will be seen as favourite to finish 2nd in the group and beat Webby this evening but the Welshman who has been qualifying for a few majors recently since being out of sorts for a while will be looking to stake his claim with a win over the Demolition Man this evening.
Rob Cross vs Joe Murnan - Rob Cross who is in Michael van Gerwen's group in his Grand Slam debut will be looking to continue his stunning rise up the PDC rankings in his first year and he starts his campaign against Joe Murnan who will be making his debut at the Wolves Civic.
Phil Taylor vs Peter Machin - It is then the turn of the BDO boys to face the PDC with 4 of the 8 competitiors from the other side of the darting divide taking on 4 of the best the PDC has to offer. First of all Phil Taylor takes on World Trophy winner Peter Machin in Taylor's last ever Grand Slam in what should be a brilliant game.
Michael van Gerwen vs Ross Montgomery - Following that it is the turn of the World Number One Michael van Gerwen to take on Ross Montgomery in his Grand Slam debut, will MVG boss Ross to get his Grand Slam defence underway??
Raymond van Barneveld vs Jamie Hughes - In one of the games of the night Barney takes on Jamie Hughes, Hughes got to the Quarter-Finals last year on debut and Barney's last title was the Grand Slam so he will be looking to stake his claim early on with a win over one of the BDO's best.
Daryl Gurney vs Danny Noppert - Finally newly crowned World Number 4 and Grand Prix champion takes on the surprise package from last year Danny Noppert. 'Noppie' who is rumoured to be switching to the PDC will if this is the case use this week to show he is good enough to be part of that and what better encouragement than a win over 'Superchin'. Overall a very exciting game to end the session.
