The 2015, 2016 and 2017 champion averaged 111 in a stunning 10-2 victory over the 2014 winner. Van Gerwen raced into an 8-0 lead with a 116 average and an 80 per cent doubles success rate. An 11-darter was the highlight of the first five legs, which van Gerwen won with ease. His first maximum only came in leg six, but the power scoring was too much for Wade to handle. The Machine was unable to muster a dart at a finish, as the Green Machine ran riot.
With van Gerwen two legs from victory, Wade sparked into life. An excellent 121 checkout broke throw, and the Andover ace held to go into the break 8-2 down. Their return to the Milton Keynes stage was brief. The Dutchman found the double 16 twice more to progress. It is now 14
Masters games in a row without defeat for Mighty Mike. Mervyn King was the last player to beat van Gerwen, in the 2013 semi-finals. In the 2018 semis, the world number one takes on Gary Anderson in a repeat of last year's final.
